All die Jahre, die ich nun schon auf Bookstagram und in der Buchbubble verbracht habe, haben mir gezeigt, dass manche Autor:innen schlicht overhyped und andere underhyped sind, bzw. wesentlich mehr Aufmerksamkeit verdienen. Daran will ich mit diesem Post etwas \u00e4ndern und beginne mit der Autorin, deren Instagramstories ich so gut wie nie verpasse und auf deren Newsletter ich jedes Mal hinfiebere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alexandra Bracken trat 2016 in mein Leseleben, als ihr Buch Passenger<\/em> mich durch die ersten Uniwochen begleitet hat (talk about a book to hide behind so you don’t have to be social) und es mir ganz sch\u00f6n schwer machte, weil ich erst so wenig auf Englisch gelesen hatte. Ich wei\u00df noch, wie ich es immer als erstes aus dem Rucksack genommen habe und als letztes eingesteckt, wenn die Vorlesungen begannen – und wie ich das erste Mal lesend auf dem Fu\u00dfg\u00e4ngerweg langgelaufen bin ^^‘. Oh, und damals war ich noch jemand, der den Schutzumschlag angenommen hat, um diesen nicht zu besch\u00e4digen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Auf sie gesto\u00dfen bin ich durch Sasha Alsberg aka Abookutopia – wie sollte es anders sein? – und seitdem folge ich ihr auf Instagram, Twitter, lese ihren Newsletter und feiere ihre Vorbestelleraktionen, die international sind, weil ich dann endlich auch mal die Chance auf all die Goodies habe, die meist nur den USA vorbehalten sind. Aber das sind erstmal nur die oberfl\u00e4chlichen Daten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lebenslauf<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Alex Bracken hat am William & Mary College in Virginia studiert, nahc Harvard das zweit\u00e4lteste College der USA (ist euch vielleicht ein Begriff, wenn ihr Always & Forever, Lara Jean<\/em> gelesen habt), wo sie einen zweifach-Bachelor in Englisch und Geschichte gemacht hat. W\u00e4hrend dieser Zeit schrieb sie ihr erstes Buch, Brightly Woven<\/em>, das sie in ihrem Abschlussjahr verkaufen konnte und gerade als Graphic Novel neu aufgelegt wird. Sie ist nach ihrem Abschluss nach New York gezogen, wo sie in einem Kinderbuchverlag gearbeitet hat, erst als Redaktionsassistentin, dann im Marketing. Nach sechs Jahren hat sie sich als Autorin selbstst\u00e4ndig gemacht und ist wieder nach Arizona gezogen (wo sie auch aufgewachsen ist), wo sie mit ihrem Hund Tennyson lebt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bekannt wurde sie durch ihre Reihe The Darkest Minds<\/em>, einer Jugendbuchdystopie, die vor ein paar Jahren verfilmt wurde. Ich habe dazu einen Buch vs. Film Vergleich<\/a> geschrieben. Danach erschien ihre Zeitreise-Dilogie, mit Passenger<\/em> landete sie auf Platz 1 der New York Times Bestseller-Liste. Mit ihrer Prosper Redding-Reihe wagte sie sich in die Kinderbuchliteratur vor – was ihr grandios gelang – und 2018 kehrte sie mit The Darkest Legacy<\/em> zur\u00fcck in ihre dystopische Reihe The Darkest Minds<\/em>. Sie schreib au\u00dferdem eine Buch im Star Wars-Universum, The Princess, The Scoundrel and The Farmboy<\/em>, eine Neuerz\u00e4hlung von Episode IV: Eine neue Hoffnung<\/em>. Ihr n\u00e4chstes Buch ist Lore<\/em>, das am 05. Januar 2021 erscheinen wird. Die \u00dcbersetzungsrecht f\u00fcr Deutschland hat sich der Arena Verlag gesichert, einen ET konnte ich leider noch nicht ausfindig machen. Alexandra Brackens B\u00fccher wurden bisher in \u00fcber 15 Sprachen \u00fcbersetzt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warum ich sie mag? <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Alex‘ B\u00fccher sind nicht nur unglaublich gut – weswegen ich sie ja \u00fcberhaupt lese – sie hat auch eine wunderbare Leser:inneninteraktion auf Instagram. Fast t\u00e4glich nimmt sie ihre Follower auf Instagram mit, teilt ihren Schreiballtag, Unfug ihres Hundes Tennyson, Behind-the-Scenes aus der Verlagswelt – k\u00fcrzlich hat sie erst die m\u00f6glichem Probleme der Fusion von Simon & Schuster und Penguin Randhom House erkl\u00e4rt – und was sie so dekorativ in ihrem Haus anstellt. W\u00e4hrend der Pandemie hat sie ein Social Distancing Writing Diary<\/a><\/em> begonnen, das man auf ihrer IG-TV Seite gucken kann und sie veranstaltet fast jeden Samstag einen Brackfast-Club Livestream, wo sie einfach nur mit ihren Leser:innen chattet und Neuigkeiten teilt. Ich habe eine Schw\u00e4che f\u00fcr ihren Newsletter, wo sie immer ein Lebensupdate gibt, Schreib- und Publikationsupdates und teilt was sie gerade liest, h\u00f6rt und schaut. Manchmal gibt es auch Einblick in ihren Schreibprozess zu fr\u00fcheren B\u00fcchern, besonders zu TDM gibt es da einiges. Auf ihrer Webseite f\u00fchrt sie ebenfalls einen blog, der nochmal anderen Content bietet, als die sozialen Medien und ihr Newsletter, man kann also an wirklich vielen ihrer Gedanken teilhaben. Und ich bin so was von begeistert deswegen. Ich kann sie f\u00fcr ihr Engagement nur empfehlen, ich kenne nur wenige Autor:innen die sich so nah den Leser:innen zeigen – und sich dabei dennoch eine Privatsph\u00e4re wahren. Mit ihren nerdigen Vorlieben kann ich mich wunderbar identifizieren und sie ist die einzige Autorin, die ich kenne, die Star Wars genauso liebt wie ich. Ich liebe es, wenn sie die neue Folge The Mandalorien<\/em> auseinandernimmt. (Spoiler-Warnung gibt es vorneweg.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Einziges Manko bisher: Keine Untertitel in den Stories. Ich will das nicht unter den Tisch fallen lassen, falls jemand darauf angewiesen ist. Ich hoffe sehr, dass sie das in Zukunft \u00fcbernehmen wird. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

TDM<\/strong>: The Darkest Minds<\/em>, Never Fade<\/em>, In The Afterligh<\/em>t + Through the Dark<\/em> – Die ersten zwei B\u00fccher von TDM habe ich auf diesem Blog bereits rezensiert, ich bin gro\u00dfer Fan der Reihe und der d\u00fcstere Welt, die einem nur allzu bekannt vorkommt. Die B\u00fccher wurden auch ins Deutsche \u00fcbersetzt, 2014 erschien Band Eins unter „Die \u00dcberlebenden“ bei Goldmann, Band Zwei „Die \u00dcberlebenden – Furchtlose Liebe“ erschien 2015 und Band Drei „Die \u00dcberlebenden – Feuer und Blut“ 2016. Die Kurzgeschichten aus Through The Dark<\/em> wurden nicht \u00fcbersetzt. Enthalten sind drei Geschichten die zwischen und nach der Trilogie spielen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brightly Woven<\/strong> – Das habe ich noch nicht gelesen, weil es sehr schwer ist da noch eine Ausgabe zu kriegen. Das Buch wurde auch ins Deutsche \u00fcbersetzt, „Aus Licht gewoben“. Das Buch erschien 2011 bei Goldmann und kann heute nur gebraucht gekauft werden. Wenn die Graphic Novel am 02. Februar 2021 erscheint, werd ich aber auf jeden Fall mal reinlesen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aktuell \u00fcberlege ich, ob es sich lohnt ihn nochmal zu lesen, ehe ich Wayfarer <\/em>anfangen – das schon seit zwei Jahren in meinem Regal anstaub – oder einfach einen Booktalk gucke und drauflos lese. Wenn die Entscheidung gefallen ist, kriegt ihr es mindestens \u00fcber Instagram mit. ^^‘ <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prosper Redding Series<\/strong>: The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding<\/em>, The Last Life of Prince Alastor<\/em> – Das ist die perfekte Reihe f\u00fcr den Herbst und Halloween. Es geht so viel um amerikanische Traditionen, die von der Autorin wunderbar auf die Schippe genommen werden, die kleine Stadt ist n\u00e4mlich sehr versessen auf ihre Halloween-Traditionen. Zudem gibt es diesen Aspekt der Unterwelt, mit all seinen komische Kreaturen, die witzig und vielf\u00e4ltig sind. Die Autorin hat absolut witzige Beleidigungen erfunden, die Alastor von sich gibt, weil er seit vielen Jahrhunderten keinen Schimmer von der Oberwelt hat. Bisher gibt es keine deutsche \u00dcbersetzung dieser B\u00fccher. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Falls jemand hier gute Empfehlungen zu Star Wars B\u00fcchern hat – immer her damit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ein Land erholt sich nicht von jetzt auf gleich und den langen Wiederaufbauprozess, der auch beinhaltet die ganze miese Propaganda zu den Psi-Kids richtig zustellen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lore<\/strong>: Bisher habe ich nur einen Chapter Sampler des Buches \u00fcber NetGalley gelesen, aber den fand ich schon gro\u00dfartig. Es ist wesentlich d\u00fcsterer, als ihre bisherigen B\u00fccher – obwohl ich das nach TDM bezweifelt habe -, aber ich bin sehr begeistert von dieser Version der griechischen G\u00f6tter im modernen New York. Weil die Inhaltsangabe gleich folgt, dachte ich, dass ich etwas \u00fcber die Inspiration schreibe. Alex hat auf Instagram schon oft \u00fcber ihre griechischen Wurzeln geredet und wie wichtig es ihr ist, davon inspiriert mal ein Buch zu schreiben. Es gibt genug B\u00fccher, die mit griechischer Mythologie zu tun haben und viele sind gro\u00dfartig (Percy Jackson, Circe etc.), aber ich habe noch nie eine Version wie diese hier gelesen und es wird fantastisch werden, da bin ich mir sicher. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
